I build software part time. That’s the honest version and it’s the reason this works.
Part time isn’t part effort. It means I say no to most things, so the few I say yes to get all of me. No account manager. No handover to a junior you’ll never meet. The person who answers your email is the person who writes the code and the person who picks up when it breaks.
It started with rent day. Every month, invoices built by hand: Excel for the numbers, Canva to make them look right, WhatsApp to chase the quiet ones. I went looking for software made for someone with a few doors and no agent. It didn’t exist. So I built SquaredUp.
Then Shiftd, because South African car culture deserved better than a group chat. Then the clients came: a scrubs brand that needed a shop as careful as its designs and a flight school whose billing should match the flying.
Different problems. Same approach.
Find the person with the problem. Build the smallest thing that changes their week. Ship it. Then stay.
Most software doesn’t fail because the code is bad. It fails because nobody owns it after launch.
